The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes it as the gold standard in infant nutrition. Although companies tout their formula brands as offering the same benefits as breast milk, none do. Infant formula is a safe alternative, but more people need to know the truth behind this breast-milk substitute, especially when coping with guilt.
Most mothers That tend to use formula buy the more expensive brands thinking that they're giving their babies most of the benefits of breast milk. I know I am Guilty of this because What I didn't know is that all infant formulas are the same. All of them are regulated by FDA and nutritionally equivalent.
As of October 1, 2009, a new WIC initiative aimed at increasing breastfeeding rates among families reallocates funding for all currently provided foods, including infant formula, baby foods, juices, and fresh fruits and vegetables. This program could mean a reduction of up to 20 percent in infant-formula subsidies; parents who previously had most of their formula paid for by WIC may now have to purchase formula on their own. That Means It's going to hurt the parents that are already struggling in this tough ecomony that we are dealing with.
If your WIC food package doesn’t cover all your infant formula needs, you can trust the quality and value of store brand formula infant formulas.
Store brand infant formulas:
* Are available under most retailers’ own labels
* Are "Federally WIC Eligible" (reviewed by WIC and can be used in
government programs)
* Fulfill all the quality and nutritional requirements of the FDA (just like the national brands)
* Cost up to 50% less* than the national brands so you can save up to $25 a month!
Remember: If you use Enfamil®, Similac®, or Nestle® under the WIC program and you need to buy more infant formula, no national name offers more complete nutrition or higher quality than a store brand So don't let anyone tell you different!

Thank goodness for some needed changes in the system.And for a person who uses store brand everything this is welcome news
My kids are out of the breastfeeding stage (teens and tweens, yes!), but it's good to know that store brands are equivalent to name brands. I have friends who are having babies and I'll be sure to pass on the information. Thanks.
